These “about” pages are supposed to give you an idea of who I am, but I find that challenging without sounding like marketing copy. Which this actually is. Instead, let me tell you about my workspace.
On my desk right now, besides dual monitors and a little fan from Target, is one of my black and white cats, Sophie. (I'm not sure where her sister Alice is at the moment.) Hanging from the natural light lamp between the two monitors is a glittery magenta owl ornament from World Market, just above a painted tin owl that once held candy (from the same store). Underneath a couple of notebooks from SCRIBEDelivery (one of my addictions), is a catalog from Fire Mountain Gems and Beads, from whence I order items for creating jewelry. On the floor is a box from CreateSpace containing copies of the first three coloring books I published in the Glories of India series. Also on the floor is a big satchel containing my dice, Ticonderoga pencils, spell cards, character sheet, and a copy of the Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition Players Handbook, all ready to go for a gaming session tomorrow. The whiteboard calendar on the wall to my right reminds me I'm substitute music leader two Sundays from now in the Baptist church I attend. I'm waiting for my husband to get home from the university where he works in technology services. By an amazing coincidence, I, too, work at a university, but not the same one; I'm employed in Web Services, but in Marketing and Communication.
I'm in a bit of a dry spell for writing right now, but I'm contemplating a cozy mystery series. I have a feeling something supernatural will crop up in the plot. I can't seem to avoid it. Or don't really want to avoid it. I do like the creepy and unexplained and mysterious–big fan of Nancy Drew and Kolchak: The Night Stalker and The X-Files–but more along the lines of Tim Powers and Charles L. Grant. I work with the Horror Writers Association, creating the web version of the newsletter each month; I got in through my writing of a gaming supplement about cemeteries that's now out of print.
I've used the word “I” far too many times now, and you're probably tired of reading about me. Please feel free to explore this site for more of what goes on in the weird world of Donna K. Fitch, Illuminator of Alternate Realities.
