Thieves: Nothing Sneaky About It

December 8, 2020 by Donna

First off, why on earth is it called “Thieves”? This essential oil blend was created from research based on legends of a group of 15th century thieves who rubbed botanicals on themselves to avoid contact with the plague when they robbed the bodies of the dead. When they were apprehended, they were forced to tell their secret, and disclosed the formula in exchange for more lenient punishment.

A dark beginning for such a sunny combination! Thieves is a blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary, and is used extensively for its cleaning power and spicy scent. A long list of Young Living products include Thieves, including dish soap, laundry detergent, toothpaste, dishwasher detergent, foaming hand soap, mouthwash, waterless hand cleaner, and the ever-popular household cleaner. I combine a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner with 2-3 cups of water in a squirt bottle for a safe substitute for cleaning countertops and spills. For degreasing, use the same amount of cleaner with less water. Economical, and best of all, it's safe to use around my cats.

I could go on all day about the virtues of Thieves. Here are Young Living's instructions:

Topical: Dilute 1 drop with 4 drops of V-6™ or olive oil. Test on small area of skin on underside of arm. Apply to desired area as needed.

Aromatic: Diffuse up to 10 minutes 3 times daily.
